Satoshi Kirishima’s last days… and his final struggle.

In January 2024, a man named Uchida Hiroshi checked himself in to hospital after being diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer. He then revealed on his deathbed that he had been living under a pseudonym since 1975, and that he was really Kirishima Satoshi, one of Japan’s most wanted figures after his participation in several bombing campaigns as part of a Communist terror cell. An adaptation of that true story, Masao Adachi’s film is a rumination on principles and politics in the face of the ever moving tide of time. Adachi, himself a former member of the Japanese Red Army, finds a great of connection between himself and Satoshi, and the film is as much an examination of the story as it is Adachi, now in his late ‘80s, reflecting on his own life as an artist and a political actor. A beautifully pensive and honest film.
